Mercedes wins the championship and Lewis Hamilton is very close to another achievement

By Gustavo Castilho

The Mercedes Team wins its seventh constructors title followed by constructors and breaks historic record.

The duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas at the Imola circuit in Italy resulted in the seventh constructors’ championship for Mercedes. It was the first time in Formula 1 history that a team managed to score seven consecutive victories. Party at Mercedes and party for Hamilton, who conquered his ninth victory in 13 races of the season on his debut at Imola. Bottas in second and Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo closed the podium. Now Hamilton is even closer to the seventh title. A difference of at least eight points from Bottas, guarantees the pilot the trophy. The win at the Emília-Romagna GP was the Englishman’s 93rd victory, which continues to achieve impressive numbers in the sport.

If the season titles are already set, the fight is still on for the drivers’ second place and the constructors’ third place. With Hamilton’s title almost assured, it is left for Red Bull’s Valterri Bottas and Max Verstappen to compete for second place. The Finn has 197 points while the Dutchman has 162. Way ahead of Daniel Ricciardo from Renault, who appears in fourth place with 95 points.

As for the teams, the situation is more balanced. If we already have Mercedes champion with the incredible 479 points and Red Bull in second place with 226 points, the fight for third place remains fierce. Renault, McLaren, and Racing Point fight for this third place. At the moment the French team is ahead with 135 points. McLaren and Racing Point are trailing the list, both with 134 points. Named “Mercedes Rosa”, the United Kingdom team was a pleasant surprise this season and has everything to overtake the renowned Renault and McLaren.

Formula 1 returns in two weeks to the Turkish Grand Prix, another circuit that was added to the calendar due to the pandemic. A curiosity is that the biggest winner of the Turkish GP is the Brazilian Felipe Massa with three victories.
