Tricolor paulista scores at 49 in the second half, in a controversial penalty

São Paulo is the champion of the Brazil U-17 Cup.  In an emotional match until the final whistle at the Luso Brasileiro stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, Tricolor Paulista beat Fluminense 2-1 and lifted the cup.  This was the second time that São Paulo won the competition.  Before, the team had won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2013. The Tricolor campaign had nine matches, with seven wins, one draw and one defeat.  There were 21 goals scored and five conceded.

As in the first leg the scoreboard ended in a goalless draw, a simple victory already gave the title to either team.  Striker João neto opened the scoring for Cariocas at the beginning of the match, and Caio equalized the score in the second half.  At 49 minutes of the second half, when everything was heading for a penalty shootout, the referee signaled a foul inside Caio Amaral’s area over striker Caio.  The Sao Paulo striker went for collection and turned the score to the Tricolor Paulista.

The two teams will face each other again in February, in the final of the Super Cup of Brazil U-17, which has the champions of the Copa do Brasil and of the Brazilian U-17 Championship, still with an indefinite date.
