Chapecoense is Series B champion for the first time in history

By Gustavo Castilho

Trophy is decided on goal difference, since the team had identical campaign to America

Since 2006, when the Brazilian Championship of Serie B acquired the formula of the points scored, there was not a dispute as fierce for the title as it happened this season.  With excitement until the end, the Serie B of the Brazilian 2020 was with Chapecoense.  At Arena Condá, Verdão do Oeste beat Confiança by 3 to 1. The achievement of the unprecedented title was defined in the goal difference.  That’s because, the team from Santa Catarina drew with América-MG in number of points (73 each), also tied in the number of victories (20 each), but the goal scored by Anselmo Ramon, in the 51st minute of the second half, in collection of  penalty kick, broke the dispute.  In the end, Chape got one more (21 against 20).  Anselmo Ramon was the name of the match with two goals.  Perroti also left his.  On the side of Confiança, Reis cashed.

With the charge of the Chapecoense striker converted, América-MG ended up with the runner-up.  Coelho beat Avaí by 2 to 1. Rodolfo and Ademir scored for the Minas Gerais team.  Getúlio stamped the net for Avaí.  The team from Santa Catarina that still had a chance of access, ended up dropping three positions and finished in the new position.

Besides Chapecoense, the night was also a party for Juventude, who stamped their passport for Serie A after 13 years.  The team beat Guarani 1-0 in Campinas.  Renato Cajá was the author of the only and beautiful goal of the match.  Juventude finished the championship in third place, with 61 points, the same score as Cuiabá, which was fourth in the goal difference tiebreaker.

Who still dreamed of access was the CSA.  But for this to be possible, I would need to win and hope for a Youth stumble.  None of this happened.  In addition to the Caxias do Sul team winning, CSA was in the 1-1 draw with Naútico, in Pernambuco.  The owners of the house still went ahead with Erick.  Pedro Lucas equalized the score for the visitors.  CSA finished in fifth place with 58 points.

Chapecoense, América-MG, Juventude and Cuiabá, are the four teams that obtained access and will compete in Series A 2021. Oeste, Botafogo-SP, Paraná and Figueirense, were relegated and will be in series C in season 2021. Cruzeiro continues  on Monday.  The team finished in 11th place, with 49 points.
