Argentina beats Brazil 1-0 and is Copa América champion

After 28 years of fasting, hermanos return to raise an award with the main team

Finally the fast ended. Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0, at Maracanã, and won the Copa América. It was ace Lionel Messi’s first title for his country’s senior team, a feat that has been pursued for a long time, and ended the 28-year-old Argentineans’ lack of cups. Argentina won the tournament title 14th time. Tempo is the second country with the most trophies in the competition, just behind Uruguay, the biggest winner with 15 victories.

The goal was scored by Ángel Di Maria in the 21st minute of the first half, in a fault by Renan Lodi. Brazil even tried, but the visitors managed to hold the pressure. Richarlison scored, but the goal was disallowed correctly because he was in an irregular position.

The Brazilian team has not suffered a defeat since November 2019, when it lost precisely to the Argentines in a friendly in Saudi Arabia. In official matches, the numbers are even higher and go back to July of the previous year, in the fateful World Cup, against Belgium. Another fact that reinforces the size of the victory of the Argentines is that Brazil has not lost at home since 2014.
