Mineiros come out ahead, but give up the tie. New equality on the scoreboard takes decision to penalties
The first game of the final of the Series C of the Brazilian Championship ended without a winner. This Saturday (13), Tombense and Ituano tied for 1-1 at Almeidão, in Tombo / MG. The return match will be next Saturday, at 5 pm (Brasilia time), at the Novelli Júnior stadium, in Itu / SP.
In the first half, the clearest chance was a shot by midfielder Igor Henrique, who stopped at the hosts’ crossbar. In the final stage, Tombense opened the scoring after just five minutes, with striker Everton Galdino taking advantage, from the edge of the area, from a left-back cross by Manoel. At 37, full-back Mário Sérgio hits the ball from the left and Igor Henrique, head, all the same.
Both teams are guaranteed in Serie B next year. Tombense will compete in the division for the first time, while Ituano made a comeback after 14 years. The São Paulo club was champion of Series C in 2003 and stayed there until 2007, when it was relegated. In addition to them, Novorizontino and Criciúma also climbed.
