Egypt beats Cameroon on penalties to reach African Cup of Nations final

After a goalless draw, the Pharaohs win 3-1 on penalties, with Abou Gabasky catching two free kicks

Egypt is in the final of the African Cup of Nations for the tenth time. The victim of the time was the selection of Cameroon, which, acting at home, was unable to pass through the country with the most conquests on the continent.

After the goalless draw with the ball rolling, the Pharaohs won 3-1 on penalties, after Abou Gabasky took two kicks from the hosts.

The first half was largely dominated by Cameroon, with goalkeeper Abou Gabal standing out due to the numerous saves he was forced to make. The most dangerous chance, however, came from Egypt, with Salah, on the counterattack, but that didn’t end up with a ball in the net.

On the way back for the second stage, the scenario was similar, but again Salah had the best chance. At 10 minutes, the team’s ace was released on a counterattack, but Onana left the area well and got in the way of the striker, who tried to dribble him.

At the end of regulation time, Carlos Queiroz ended up being sent off because of his complaints, getting angry with the referee.

With 0 to 0 on the scoreboard, the match went to extra time where caution spoke louder. With the two teams in a more contained rhythm, the decision went to penalties. Then came the brilliance of Abou Gabasky, who took two shots, and put the Pharaohs in the final, where they now face Senegal.
