Competition brings together continental champions from Europe and South America
Italy and Argentina play soon, at 15:45 (Brasília time), the 2022 Final in Wembley, England. The duel that puts the champions of the Copa América and Eurocopa in dispute takes place for the first time since 1993, in a partnership between Uefa and Conmebol. In the two previous editions, the champions were France and Argentina. In 1985, the French beat Uruguay 2-0 in Paris, while the Argentines took the trophy in 1993 after winning on penalties 5-4 over Denmark.
The last confrontation between Italy and Argentina took place on March 23, 2018, in an international friendly. The match was the result of preparation for the World Cup in Russia, held in June of the same year. Argentina prevailed in a 2-0 victory with goals from Benega and Lanzini, playing at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.
