Bahia wins Ceará on penalties and is champion of the Northeast Cup

After 2-1 in regular time, the match goes to penalties and the team from Bahia takes the tournament for the fourth time, converting four charges against two from Vozão

It was with emotion. For the fourth time Bahia was champion of the Copa do Nordeste (also won in 2001,2002 and 2017). Playing at Arena Castelão, the tricolor beat Ceará by 2 to 1 in regular time, making the game go to penalties, since in the first game Vozão had won by 1 to 0. Rodriguinho and Gilberto scored for Bahia. On the black side, Jael took it out. On penalties, the tricolor won again and won 4-2.

With the title, Bahia matched rival Vitória as the team that most defeated Nordestão, with four titles in total. The triumph of the Bahian tricolor over Ceará in the regular time, caused the homeowners’ invincibility that had lasted 23 games in the Northeast Cup to fall. In addition to the title, Bahia also had striker Gilberto as the competition’s top scorer, with eight goals.

The list of winners of the tournament still has Sport, with three conquests and Ceará, with two. Campinense, Fortaleza, Santa Cruz, América de Natal and Sampaio Corrêa, complete the ranking of the winners with just one title.
