Brazil debuts at Copa America against Venezuela

Brazilian team kicks off the competition at Arena Mané Garrincha, in Brasília

In a little while, the ball will roll to Brazil and Venezuela, at the opening of the Copa America 2021. The match will be held at 6 pm, at Arena Mané Garrincha, in Brasília. The Brazilian team is looking for the tenth South American title, while the opponent tries for the first. With nine titles in the competition, Brazil is behind Uruguay, which has already won 15, and Argentina, which has 14 victories. Paraguay, Chile and Peru won twice each, while Colombia and Bolivia only once. Two South American countries affiliated to Conmebol, Ecuador and Venezuela are the only ones that never raised the cup.

Compared to the team that beat Paraguay last Tuesday (8) in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, the team should have three changes: Alisson’s return to goal, Renan Lodi in Alex Sandro’s place and Paquetá in the spot he belonged to to Firmino. Tite does not have embezzlement in the Brazilian team.

The Venezuelan team has 13 absences due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the squad. Because of this, Conmebol decided to change the tournament regulations and removed the limit of five substitutions for Covid-19 in the final squad. Thus, 15 players were called up in a hurry to complete the list.
