Chelsea beat City 1-0 and are two-time UEFA Champions League champion

Havertz scores decisive goal in the first half in the Blues’ great tactical game

In a match played at Estádio do Dragão, in Portugal, Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 and won the double champion of the UEFA Champions League. This was the third time that the club reached the final of the competition. In 2007/08 the team was runner-up after losing the final to Manchester United. In 2011/12, the unprecedented title came upon Bayern Munich. Manchester City, which was disputing a Champions decision for the first time, took the vice.

In the 42nd minute of the first half, Havertz scored the only goal of the match that was enough to crown the London club. Just five months in charge of the Blues, Thomas Tuchel managed to turn the London team into a defensive fortress, but with great offensive work as well. With the German on the edge of the field, there were 30 games and only 16 goals conceded. In 19 matches Chelsea did not have their defense leaked. In the Champions League, the Blues have not conceded goals in five of their seven matches since the coach arrived. In today’s match, the London club worked hard to avoid City’s submissions, leaving virtually no space for the team.

Pep Guardiola even tried to move in the end by putting Gabriel Jesus and Aguero, who made the last match with the City shirt, but the blue wall followed relentlessly. The game also had the casualties of defender Thiago Silva and midfielder De Bruyne. The Brazilian was substituted at 38 in the first half, after feeling the groin, the Belgian had to leave after getting the worst in a head shock with defender Rudiger.

With the Chelsea title, defender Thiago Silva became the 54th Brazilian to win the Champions League. Last year he hit the crossbar when he was runner-up for PSG. At 36, the player reached his 30th career title.
