Flamengo defeats Palmeiras on penalties and wins second championship of the Brazilian Super Cup

In an electrifying match, rubro-negro raises first title of the season of Brazilian football

There was no lack of emotion. A final worthy of two of the main protagonists of Brazilian football in recent years. After several twists and turns, Flamengo won and beat Palmeiras 6-5 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

After two minutes of play, Raphael Veiga put the SĆ£o Paulo team ahead. Flamengo came to a draw with Gabigol, after a good move by Filipe Luis. Still in the first half, Arrascaeta scored a beautiful goal and turned the score. In the second stage, Rodrigo Caio committed a penalty on Ron who was converted by Raphael Veiga again.

With everything the same, the decision went to penalties and then it was the goalkeepers’ turn to shine, but in the end it was Diego Alves who got the better of WĆ©verton. In alternate charges, Rodrigo Caio stamped the net alviverde and secured the second championship for Flamengo. In addition to the title, the red-black took home R $ 5 million, while Palmeiras pocketed R $ 2 million.

The achievement increased Palmeiras’ fast even more in the face of the Rio de Janeiro rival. Since 2017, VerdĆ£o doesn’t know what it’s like to beat Flamengo. Since then, there have been seven games with four draws (on penalties Flamengo won) and three victories for the Rio club.
