Grêmio and Santos are tied; Internacional is eliminated from Libertadores

By Gustavo Castilho

Colorado plays well, wins the game, but loses in the penalty shootout.  For the Brazilian classic he has emotion until the end with a goal in extra time.

The first game of the Libertadores quarter finals between Grêmio and Santos showed the balance between the teams.  With the 1-1 draw in Porto Alegre, the return game promises to be even more exciting.  Kaio Jorge opened the scoring for the São Paulo team and in the second half, Diego Souza, with a penalty scored by VAR, left everything the same.  Having scored a goal as a visitor, Santos plays 0-0 at Vila Belmiro.  A new 1-1 draw leads to a penalty shootout.  Grêmio, on the other hand, advances if there is equality on the scoreboard by two or more goals difference.  Whoever wins, obviously, advances in the stage.  The two teams will face each other next Tuesday (12/15), in Santos.

In the last duel still valid for the round of 16, Internacional was another Brazilian who said goodbye to the competition.  The team faced Boca Junior, in Argentina, and returned the defeat of last week in Porto Alegre by 1 to 0. With a goal by Fabra and a great performance by the team, the dispute went to penalties, and Boca Junior took the  best.  With 5 to 4 in the collection, the xeniezes advanced of phase and now face Racing, in the Argentine classic.  The first game will be next Tuesday (16/12).

The ball rolls today for River Plate (ARG) and Nacional (URU), in Argentina.  It is the first game between the teams in the quarterfinals of the competition.  The winner faces whoever wins between Palmeiras and Libertad (PAR).
