Grêmio wins Ceará and is champion of Brazilian Aspirants

Tricolor scores a 4-1 goal and takes the unprecedented title of the competition

At the Arena, Grêmio had no difficulties to beat Ceará 4-1 and win the unprecedented title of the Brazilian Championship of Aspirants 2022, the sub-23. After having lost the first game 2-1, the tricolor needed to win by more than two goals not to take the decision to penalties.

The cheering party, however, was short-lived. Ceará then tied, at 4 minutes, with Hélio Borges. He started from the right, hit cross and the ball swerved on defense before entering, deceiving the goalkeeper Felipe.

It didn’t take long for the tricolor to return to the lead on the scoreboard. On minute 11, Jonatha Varela made his own, after a cross by Vini Paulista, the ball hit the crossbar and was left in the area for the shirt number 5 to head into the net.

At 31, another goal from the hosts. Vini Paulista kicked across, goalkeeper André Luiz palmed and Elias Manoel opened the scoring to score the 12th goal in the competition and consolidate his position as top scorer. Grêmio would do another one before the break, with Pedro Lucas, in the 41st minute.

In the second half, the tricolor only managed the result, while Ceará, unsuccessfully, tried to reduce the difference.

With the victory, the Guild lifted the Aspirants’ cup for the first time. The tournament, which began in 2017, has rival Internacional as the biggest winner, accumulating two achievements. São Paulo, Ceará and now Grêmio, each with a mug.
