Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. face off today in the fight of the year

By Gustavo Castilho

The two legends carry together 96 boxing victories.

After 15 years away from the rings, Mike Tyson returns to boxing today. The sports legend faces Roy Jones in Los Angeles, California. At 54, Tyson has not fought since 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride. The American has a card of 58 fights, with 50 wins, just six defeats, and two battles with no final result. Of these victories, 40 were by knockout. There is no tie in Tyson’s trajectory.

Nicknamed Captain Hook, due to the power of his right hook, Jones has 66 victories on his card, 47 by knockout, and only nine defeats. At 51 years of age, the boxer’s last fight was in 2018, when he beat Scott Sigmon. Jones seeks to recover the fighter status of the decade he acquired in the 90s. He is the only boxer in history to start his career as a middleweight and won a heavyweight title.

The fight will be an exhibition, as it has been announced that it will not have an official score. Therefore, there will be no victorious fighter after the stipulated eight rounds, although both will receive a commemorative belt for their participation.
