Team beats Floresta again 1-0 and wins first national title

Mirassol is champion of the Brasileirão Série D edition 2020. Playing at the José Maria de Campos Maia Stadium, in Mirassol, the team won the Forest again by 1 to 0. The Lion played with the advantage of the tie, since in Fortaleza he won the  Ceará by the same score.  João Carlos was the author of the only goal of the match, in the 18th minute of the first half.

This was the first time that the club won a national cup.  The unprecedented feat crowns a historic season at Mirassol.  Leão got the best place in history in the Paulista Championship 2020, when he finished in third place.  The feat was achieved even after the loss of 18 players during the state’s stoppage, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  The team became the 18th club in São Paulo to win a Brazilian Championship cup, regardless of division, and also became the second in the state to win the Serie D, as Botafogo-SP had the same feat in 2015.

The vice-championship of Floresta prevented Ceará from isolating itself as the state that most often won the fourth division of Brazilian football.  It would be the third title in Ceará, after the conquests of Guarany de Sobral (2010) and Ferroviário (2018)

Mirassol and Floresta will compete in the Serie C of the Brasileirão 2021. Besides them, Novorizontino-SP and Altos-PI also went up.  They entered the vacancies of São Bento-SP, Boa Esporte-MG, Imperatriz-MA and Treze-PB, which were relegated and will compete in the D Series 2021
