On penalties, Palmeiras is defeated by Defensa y Justicia and gets the vice-president of Recopa

Argentine club reached the second international conquest of history, while verdão loses one more decision of the season

Again on penalties and again in Brasilia. The Mané Garrincha stadium will not miss Palmeiras. After the defeat to Flamengo last Sunday, the club from São Paulo again disappointed and was overcome by Defensa y Justicia-ARG. The Argentines returned the score 2 to 1 from the first game, making the game go to overtime and then to penalties, where the visitors won by 4 to 3.

In a tense game, Palmeiras opened the scoring with Raphael Veiga, from a penalty. Defensa came to a draw soon after with Braian Romero. In the second half, full-back Matías Viña was sent off, making the game more complicated for the summer. At 47 minutes, Marcelo Benítez turned to the Argentines. In overtime, defender Gustavo Goméz also missed a penalty for Palmeiras. On the Argentine side, Romero was sent off, leaving the two teams with ten players on the field.

With the result maintained, the decision went to penalties and in it Palmeiras again disappointed. Luiz Adriano, who was returning after being sidelined by Covid-19, and goalkeeper Weverton squandered the charges.

Defensa y Justicia reached the second international title in the club’s history. Palmeiras said farewell to Brasilia with two championships being lost on penalties.
