Palmeiras faces Libertad in the first duel of the Libertadores quarterfinals

By Gustavo Castilho

Offensive football with good average of goals in away games, is the team weapon.

Still without coach Abel Ferreira, away from Covid-19, Palmeiras are in Paraguay, where later, at 21:30, Brasília time, they face Libertad, in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.  Besides the coach, the team still does not have Felipe Melo (ankle surgery), Wesley (knee surgery), Luan Silva (knee surgery), Luiz Adriano (thigh injury), Patrick de Paula (thigh injury) and Marcos Rocha (with Covid-19).

Since taking charge of Palmeiras, coach Abel Ferreira has clearly shown the philosophy of the offensive game he likes to implement. In the five games they have played so far as a visitor, the team only did not score goals in the 1-0 defeat by Goiás, for the Brazilian Championship.  At the time, the coach had 22 absences to climb the team.

On the Libertad side, the absences are Nicolás Milesi and Ivan Franco.  Despite this, the team comes with maximum strength for the next duel.  The striker Óscar Cardozo, idol of the country and top scorer of the team in Libertadores, with four goals, is very confirmed.  The Paraguayan team has some acquaintances in Brazilian football, such as goalkeeper Martín Silva, former Vasco, and side Ivan Piris, formerly of São Paulo.

Tomorrow, Santos and Grêmio face off in Santos, in the Brazilian duel of Libertadores.  The other game that rocks the night is Boca Junior and Internacional.  In Argentina, the teams will decide the last wave of the quarterfinals.  In Beira Rio, Boca won and won 1-0. On Thursday, we have River Plate receiving Nacional (URU), also in Argentina.
