Palmeiras is eliminated by Tigres in the Club World Cup

Team does not play well and is defeated 1-0 by the Mexicans, who advance to the final for the first time in the history of Mexican football

The dream of becoming world champion for Palmeiras is over.  Eight days after winning the Copa Libertadores de América, the team was eliminated by Tigres in the Club World Cup.  André-Pierre Gignac, from a penalty, scored the only goal of the match.  The result could be worse if it weren’t for goalkeeper Weverton, the best player of the Brazilian team in the match.

Palmeiras continues in Qatar and returns to the field on Thursday, in the dispute for third place.  At 12 pm (Brasília time), the team faces the loser of the duel between Al Ahly, from Egypt, and Bayern Munich, which takes place this Monday, at 3 pm, Brasília time.

In addition to the chance to dispute a world title, the Brazilian club still lost a good amount of money in awards.  FIFA pays $ 4 million to the runner-up and $ 5 million to the champion.  If you take third place, the Brazilian team will receive 2.5 million dollars (R $ 13.4 million in the current quote).  The fourth takes 2 million dollars (about R $ 10.7 million).

Sadness on the Brazilian side and joy for the Mexicans.  Trained by the Brazilian Tuca Ferretti, the Mexican club made history.  This is the first time that a club in the country has managed to reach a World Cup decision.  Never had a Mexican beat a South American in the tournament.  So far there have been four clashes: Vasco and Necaxa (2000), LDU against Pachuca (2008), Atlético Nacional-COL against América (2016) and finally Grêmio over Pachuca (2017).  Tigres for the first time won the Concachampions and qualified for the World Cup.
