Tigger becomes first club to get Terceira’s trophy three times
Only a catastrophe took that title from Vila Nova. After the 5 to 1 victory in the first leg, the team from Goiás could lose by up to three goals that would still guarantee the unprecedented third championship of the Serie C. In Belém, Vila won Remo again, this time by 3 to 2. With the majority of the players at their disposal, since in the first match of the final the Leão da Amazônia cannot count on eleven athletes, five of them from the starting lineup, the team even drew a turn. Felipe Gedoz opened the scoring early on, but Alan Mineiro drew afterwards. Remo would still make the second with Lucas Siqueira, but Pablo again equalized. In the second stage, defender Mimica scored against, guaranteed the victory for the Goiás.
With the title of Series C 2020, Vila Nova becomes the biggest champion of the competition in all history, with three achievements (1996, 2015 and 2020). Tigre leaves behind rival Atlético-GO, which is now the only two-time champion, and another 28 clubs with a single win, including Remo, who raised the cup in 2005.
Vila is already committed to the Green Cup next Tuesday, the 2nd, against Palmas, in Goiânia. Remus cannot regret it too much. The Azulinos return to the field next Wednesday, at 4 pm, when they will play the first game of the quarterfinals of the Green Cup, against Independente Tucuruí, again at Mangueirão.
