Villarreal surprises and knocks Juventus out of the Champions League

Spaniards win 3-0 and qualify for the quarterfinals after 13 years

Villarreal was not intimidated and, surprisingly, beat Juventus 3-0 in Turin, Italy. As the first game ended in a 1-1 draw, the victory was more than enough to put the Spanish team in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after 13 years. Semi-finalists in 2006, Villarreal are only in their fourth participation in the Champions League.

In a great phase of the season, Juventus was dominant throughout the game. Ball on the post, 14 shots against four from Villarreal and five saves by the rival goalkeeper. But from the 30’s of the second half everything changed.

Coquelin was brought down by Rugani inside the area and, with the help of VAR, the referee awarded the penalty. Moreno went for the kick and put the Spanish team in front. From there, the owners of the house were lost.

At 39, Pau Torres headed in after a corner. And, at 45, came the move that described Juve’s desperation. De Ligt jumped in front of Danjuma to intercept the submission. But he got his hand on the ball. The Dutchman himself went to the penalty and decreed the classification of Villarreal: 3 to 0.
