Despite the embezzlement, the Spanish team has Freuler sent off to open an advantage

Real Madrid came out ahead of Atalanta in the fight for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.  Playing in Italy, the Spanish team took advantage of the expulsion of midfielder Freuler at 17 of the first half to guarantee the victory by 1 to 0 over Atalanta.  Despite the numerical power, the goal came only after 40 minutes of the second half in a shot by Mendy.

Carvajal, Odriozola, Éder Militão, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Valverde, Hazard, Rodrygo and Benzema, all in the medical department, were not available.  The Real Madrid bench was basically made up of boys.

Any tie qualifies Zidane’s men in the return game, set for March 16, at Alfredo di Stéfano.  Atalanta need to win by two goals difference, or by one, as long as they score two or more times.  A new 1 to 0 for the visitor takes the decision for overtime.  After taking a second yellow, Casemiro is already the right player for the match.
